Water kefir grains

Water kefir grains will thrive better under certain circumstances and conditions. Here is a short list of water kefir grains preferred growing conditions:
  • Airtight: Both aerobic (require oxygen, non-airtight with a cloth on top) and anaerobic (without oxygen, airtight) work fine.
  • Higher water pH: Water kefir grains don’t like acidic lower pH water or solution.
    • You can add sodium bicarbonate (commonly used in baking) to reduce the pH of the water solution.
    • Try to rinse the water kefir to make a new sugar solution which is not acidic instead of using the old batch and continuously adding water into the water kefir solution.
